Kasetsart University in Thailand, one of the Yamaguchi University’s international exchange partner universities, paid a courtesy visit to Yamaguchi University
On Friday, March 24, 2023, 11members, including Dr. Chongrak Wachrinrat, President, academic staffs of the Faculty of Engineering, and International Affairs Officer from Kasetsart University (KU) in Thailand, one of the Yamaguchi University’s international exchange partner universities, paid a courtesy visit to Yamaguchi University (YU). The purpose of their visit to YU was to discuss student exchange programs with YU Faculty of Engineering and to see the learning environment for students. From YU, Dr. YAMADA Yoichi (Dean of Faculty of Engineering), Dr. IKARUGA Shinji (Vice-Dean), Dr. MIKAMI Masato, Dr. YOSHIMOTO Makoto, Dr. YAMAGUCHI Shingo, Dr. MABU Shingo academic staffs of the Faculty of Engineering and Mr. GERDPRASERT THANAWIT, who are enrolled the doctoral program in the Graduate School of Sciences and Technology for Innovation of YU after completing his master program at KU, participated in the meeting. At first, Dr. YAMADA gave a welcome greeting then YU academic staffs of the Faculty of Engineering introduced the short- term internship program collaborated with KU and YU research activities. Mr. THANAWIT also introduced student life at YU, explaining how it differs from student life in Thailand. KU staffs asked questions about each introduction, and we lively exchanged our opinions and information. After the meeting, they went on a campus tour included a poster session by Engineering students.
After the campus tour, a signing ceremony was held for three agreements: Memorandum of Understanding, Student Exchange Agreement and Material Transfer Agreement between the Research Center for Thermotolerant Microbial Resources (TMR) at YU and Biodiversity Center at KU. President TANIZAWA Yukio, Vice President ISHII Yuri (International Cooperation), Dr. AZAKAMI Hiroyuki (Director, TMR) and Dr. YAMADA (Senior Presidential Advisor), joined in the meeting from the ceremony. After the ceremony, they shared some ideas about their activities at luncheon meeting in a friendly atmosphere from beginning to end.
Since the conclusion of the international exchange agreement between KU and YU in 1998, we have conducted academic exchanges, especially in the Faculty of Agriculture and the TMR. This courtesy visit to YU was a good opportunity for both KU and YU to deepen their understanding to expand the possibilities of interaction. It is expected that research and student exchanges between the two universities will become even more active in the future.
