To become an undergraduate student, you must take and pass an entrance examination. Yamaguchi University offers a special entrance examination for privately-funded international students. Non-Japanese individuals may also take the general entrance examination or the entrance examination designed for working people, however, because both require a high level of Japanese language skills, we strongly recommend that non-native Japanese speakers take the “Entrance Examination for Privately-funded International Students”

Yamaguchi University boasts nine Faculties: the Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Agriculture, Joint Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, and Faculty of Global and Science Studies. For more details, please see the Yamaguchi University Campus Guide Book or visit each faculty’s webpage.

Those wishing to attend the Faculty of Economics or the Faculty of Engineering can apply with the Entrance Application for Privately-funded International Students without coming to Japan. The application for these two faculties consists only of screening of submitted documentation. A faculty specific examination is not required. Applicants for any other faculty are requested to come and take the Entrance Examination for Privately-funded International Students in Japan.

You must satisfy the following requirements for admission to the Examination: 1) Those who completed or will complete 12 years of school education overseas or an education defined as equivalent by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology

2) Those designated by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (which means candidates who obtained either an international baccalaureate diploma, Abitur diploma, or France’s baccalaureate diploma)

3) Those who completed a 12-year course at an educational facility accredited for educational activities by WASC (USA), ACSI (USA) or CIS (UK).

TOEIC/TOEFL

For the Department of Medicine at Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Agriculture, and Joint Faculty of Veterinary Medicine only accept SP test※3 scores. For the Faculty of Economics and Faculty of Engineering, those with a score either over 400 in TOEIC, over 40 in TOEFL iBT, or over 435 in TOEFL PBT are eligible to apply for admission.

※1 Candidates who hold Permission for Permanent Residence are not eligible for this examination.
